I need to know what this article says about the legal dustup over the terms “winglets” and “sharklets” for an aviation history article I’m writing for Friday about the A320. For your time, here’s an A319 with sharklets. Don’t you dare call them winglets, or you’ll hear from somebody’s lawyer.

Oh my gosh I’ve been living a lie. This entire time I just thought those tiny triangles were Airbus’ sharklets. I didn’t know they had such Boeing looking winglets.

Boeing should call them Wingtip Airflow Normalizing GuideS and trademark it.

just to stick it to Airbus.

EDIT: Looks like I had it backwards.

Let’s be honest; we all know they are ducks, so let’s call them Ducklets.

The tiny triangles are actually called wingtip fences. The winglets, or sharklets, are technically “blended winglets”.

First time I’ve heard the term Sharklet. My profs always referred to them as winglets

They are both blended winglets. I think there is some sort of trademark issue with the term “winglet”, which is why Airbus used their own term.

I have been told that simply Google-searching the title of an article with some “restricted views” news providers will get you the article even if your x views/month are spent. Something about how the search engine tracking gets you to an article vs. just clicking through the normal way.

Might be worth a shot.
